The Light Will Return

Decisions bring change and the light of the future

“The Winter Solstice is the time of ending and beginning, a powerful time — a time to contemplate your immortality. A time to forgive, to be forgiven, and to make a fresh start. A time to awaken.”

As we shift from the winter nights to the lengthening of day light, an energy inside us emerges, reminding us the days will soon be longer. It reinforces our reasons to look forward to what may be coming.

I recently wrote an article about how hard decisions can sometimes be. Where life does not always cooperate, nor does it let us know what to do next. It doesn’t tell us where to go, nor give us a hint. When we have too many choices, it only complicates an already complicated process.

Sometimes the winter darkness feels like that. It bogs us down. Makes us weary, tired, lethargic. But just like the days will get longer, decisions often find an answer and the light of the future returns.

“In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present.” — Sir Francis Bacon

I am somewhat of a control freak. I need to know what is next. I need a PLAN. I stress out on the unknowns. It is just who I am. In my younger years, I would contemplate all the ways a decision could go, then make a final decision. Once I made a final decision, I went into it headstrong, determined to make it work, and strong in faith it was the right choice. As I have aged, I often find myself questioning my decisions, unsure of which way to go? My instincts are aging just like my body.

I find myself sometimes stuck in the darkness and I can’t see the light.

“You’ve done it before and you can do it now. See the positive possibilities. Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination.” -Ralph Marston

After months of trying to decide where we were going to lay down our next roots and investigating all the different options, I decided — ENOUGH! Let’s just choose something, so we did. And once the decision was made, I felt it — a light, a lifting of spirit, RELIEF! It felt right, but it also did not feel FINAL, meaning we could change our minds later if need be.

But for now, it felt right.

I found myself looking forward to the decision we made and all the possibilities it might bring. Once the decision was made, things started to happen. Plans formulated. The decision found momentum and was moving forward on its own. It was heading towards the light.

It is hard to move forward, to make a change. But change is good for our soul. It provides us with excitement, determination, awareness. We learn from change. We get energy from change. It is the light at the end of a long winter.

The Light Will Return — if you just open your mind and your heart to let it in. And trust yourself.
