Never, have I ever…

Never, have I ever, in my lifetime imagined a year like 2020. The year of WTF. As a writer, I could not have even dreamed up a horror story such as 2020. No, never have I ever… And the year is only half over.

  1. A full-blown pandemic. It’s like a really bad B-Movie, a virus sweeping around the globe infecting everyone in its path. Only this horror move is very real. Nope, never could I have imagined seeing this in my lifetime. Even, Dr. Fauci, who did know this was a possibility hoped he would not see it in his lifetime.
  2. The absolute worst President ever. We’ve had some doozie leaders in this country, but none of them can compare to Donald Trump. Nope, never expected such a dumb, yet, deviously clever moron to be in charge of the United States of America. Never thought I would see a President so blatantly corrupt, who breaks law after law after law, swindles the American public and our coffers, abuses his powers so openly and all while Congress and our Justice system watch. Nope never have I ever, nor do I ever want to again.
  3. Racism (prejudice) has been part of mankind since the beginning. We were all raised with it in some form or other. But never have I seen such vile and disgusting HATRED. Nor, have I seen it divide and crush our country so harshly. And, the worst part, our so-called President is not only encouraging it and egging it on, he’s the supreme leader in charge.
  4. Russia as an ally. I grew up hiding under my desk in elementary school during practice raids so we would know what to do if the Russians ever attacked. We were continuously taught that Russia was our sworn enemy. Yet our current President worships Putin and favors Russia sometimes over his own people. What would come of this love affair Trump has with Russia, is anyone’s guess? I just hope our children and grandchildren never have to learn the fear of what it means to hide under a desk in anticipation of an enemy we do not know.
  5. We are proud, us Americans. But today, for the first time, I must say I am embarrassed to be an American. We have lost the trust and respect of our allies and the world. All thanks to our President. People around the world pity us and look at us in wonder, shaking their heads as they watch in horror as our country collapses in chaos and is mismanaged by a corrupted leader and his thugs. I feel real fear as the world shuts us out during this pandemic and rightfully so. I never thought I would see the day other countries would not allow us in. We are no longer welcomed around the world. This pandemic has shown America’s true colors right now and they are not proud colors bursting in American pride, they are dull and angry colors screaming in loud hateful bursts of righteousness and white privilege and screw you all, including most Americans.
  6. Climate change. We’ve been warned for years. Most of us ignored it, thinking, “not in my lifetime.” Well, guess what? It is in our lifetime. It’s right now, this minute, this day, this month, this year. It is not the responsibly of governments and countries to make it right, it is the responsibility of mankind, each and every one of us.
  7. Murder Hornets. Come on people, who thinks up these names? If you are an insect or an animal, and want to scare the bejesus out of us, then hire the PR firm that thought up “Murder Hornets.” As if the pandemic wasn’t enough to keep us locked up inside.

No, never in my lifetime, could I have imagined the horrors of 2020. But then I could not have imagined emails, internet, cell phones, Facebook, Amazon, self-driving cars, going into space, and the bajillions of other wonders and strange things that have happened in my lifetime. At this point, I don’t know whether to look forward to what’s next or fear it. I just hope 2021 comes really fast and brings some really good news with it. We can only hope.

I know one thing, if Zombies make it on this list, that’s it, I am so done.
