I Don’t Always Listen to My Instincts
But when I do….
It started off as a niggling. A quiet whisper.
Usually, when my gut starts to talk to me, it often starts out as a whisper and I often just ignore it. I continue to ignore it even as it speaks a little louder. It’s usually when it reaches a deafening volume that I finally take heed. I learned that lesson years ago — maybe I should pay attention to the whispering.
To this day I still have a hard time discerning between instinct and mere anxiety. Is it my gut talking to me or am I just afraid. I try to pay more attention.

After a year and a half of living in our Airstream, a niggling started to poke at me. I only felt something, it was unclear as to what it was going on about. Then one day a faint whisper broke through, “It’s time to stop Airstreaming.” I brushed it aside for I was not ready to stop and I was sure it did not know what it was saying. It hinted, it had something to do with my husband, was it truly about my husband, or was I simply grasping at excuses?
Instead of waiting until it screamed at me, I started to listen but I wanted to leave on my terms, not its. I still had places to visit and experiences that only Betty Jo (the Airstream) could take…
