Finding A Moment of Gratitude

Even if only for a day….

In a world swirling with chaos and political unrest, I found myself needing to put in extra effort to quiet my mind for just one day. Thanksgiving is meant to be a time of gratitude, a time to appreciate life and all its blessings. But during these strange times and with a future so uncertain, it is tough to see the good through the haze of all that feels wrong in the world.

Living far from family in a place where we barely know anyone, our holiday plans are meant just for two. Cooking a big meal seemed unnecessary, and we toyed with the idea of eating out. But something deep inside me craved tradition this year. I needed a touch of normalcy, a connection to family and togetherness, even if just symbolically. So, I decided to cook. I whipped up some of our favorite Thanksgiving dishes, swapping the turkey for chicken. The meal was intimate, comforting, and exactly what my soul needed.

I cranked up the music and let Dave Matthews Band fill the air, singing along as I toiled in the kitchen. Life felt normal and I was gratefully swaying to its tune. For a little while, I could pretend the world was once again normal and the future…
