Chapter Number ?
The End of the Road
I am a firm believer in “things happen for a reason.” I, often, do not understand the reason but I am sure there is one. Sometimes when I reflect back upon a situation, I might actually figure out the reason.
I also firmly believe, “When a door closes, another one opens.” There have been many times where a door started to close but I chose to ignore it. BIG mistake. What usually ends up happening — it starts off slowly, dropping hints here and there — I ignore them. Then the hints will get louder and more in my face, still I ignore them. Until finally, the door shoves me out, slams shut, and multiple locks loudly click into place. I find myself stranded in a hall with no idea where to go and which door to open next.
For the last two years, we have been living and traveling on the road, scurrying from location to location. This chapter of our life was more planned. We estimated we only had about two, maybe three years, so we crammed as much as we could into what is really a short amount of time. As I look back over this last chapter, I am in AWE! Did we really do all of that? Did we visit those places? Did we actually LIVE on the road? If you really knew me, you would be in AWE, too. In awe, that I was brave enough to do just that. In awe of what I learned on the road and what I learned about myself.
We were settled into one location over the summer months of 2022, I knew then, this door was getting ready to close. This time I listened to the hints. I didn’t always agree and sometimes I still ignored it, like while in Arizona for the winter months, there were little hints (thoughts) that maybe we should have stayed put and sold her then. I didn’t listen because Betty Jo (the Airstream), still had places to take us.
The first stop was Big Bend National Park. We had a list of specific locations that were on our Must Visit lists, this was one of them.
The next was a beach on the Gulf Coast, we decided on Biloxi, Mississippi and it did not disappoint.
Last, was the Panhandle of Florida. Why? Not sure, it just kept calling to me.
There are other places we did not get to visit during this time but I cannot regret what we haven’t done, I can only enjoy the memories and feel gratitude for what we did do.
It took me months to figure out what the next chapter might be? And it is still a work in progress. We had to decide where the next chapter took place? We just knew it was somewhere east. What characters might be involved? Time will only tell.
This door is closing, just a few more things to complete before it can close and end this chapter.
