After Two Years of Living on the Road it was time to Tell the Tale

Many of Betty Jo’s (the Airstream) followers suggested I write a book about our journey. At first, I kind of scoffed at the idea. Would anyone even read it? What would be my message? I had already written about most of the journey through our blog and here on Medium. What more could I offer?

Then one day, a title came to me — Two Years, in a Truck, in an Airstream, JUST US. The idea popped into my head while reflecting on how living in such a small space affected our relationship. Most of the time, it was fine, but there were moments — oh boy, were there moments — when it was challenging. Never had our relationship been tested more. And we had already been married a long time, even living through Covid, when we hit the road.

As I started laying out the book, I realized I had more to say — and more to offer. The journey wasn’t just about our relationship. It was about so much more.

I thought putting the book together would be quick and painless. At first, it was. But it kept evolving. Memories and ideas kept begging to be added. Assembling the information was fairly easy, but once I started the layout — that’s where it got time-consuming. I had thrown the information into chapters randomly, just text, no real order.
